Read this before treatment
Prescription programs carry real risks. This page summarizes themes the clinicians discuss in consultation. It is not complete FDA labeling, a medication guide, or a list of every side effect.
GLP-1 receptor agonists (weight programs)
Medications in this class may carry boxed warnings related to thyroid C-cell tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma. They are contraindicated in personal or family history of those conditions and in certain endocrine syndromes. Pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, dehydration, and severe gastrointestinal symptoms have been reported. Tell your clinician if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
Testosterone and men's hormone therapy
Testosterone therapy can raise hematocrit, affect fertility, and worsen untreated sleep apnea. It is not appropriate for everyone with low energy. Prostate and cardiovascular history matter. Only use testosterone under supervision with periodic labs.
Women's hormone therapy
Estrogen and progesterone regimens depend on age, uterine status, and personal risk factors. Hormone therapy is not a default for every symptom of midlife. Breast, uterine, clotting, and cardiovascular history guide whether treatment is offered and how you are monitored.
PDE-5 inhibitors (sexual health)
These medicines interact dangerously with nitrates and certain other blood-pressure drugs. Chest pain, vision or hearing changes, and prolonged erection are reasons to stop and seek care immediately. A clinician must review your medications before anything is prescribed.
Finasteride and hair programs
Finasteride can affect PSA testing and has been associated with sexual side effects and mood changes in some people. It is contraindicated in pregnancy because of risk to a developing fetus. Discuss alternatives if you are planning conception.
Where to find complete labeling
If you are prescribed a medication, read the patient information that accompanies the dispensed product. Ask your clinician or pharmacist about anything that is unclear. Do not rely on this website alone for safety decisions.
